Only 19,000 Tourists Can Be Accommodated On Boracay Reopening, DILG Says
The Department of the Interior and Local Government said that the Boracay Island could only accommodate 19, 000 tourists on its reopening.
On Friday (August 31, 2018), Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge Eduardo Año said that only 19, 000 could only enter the country’s most popular tourist destination on October 26, 2018 (Reopening).
Año explained that the limitation of the number of tourists is based on the island’s capacity including the number of employees and residents.
“Based dun sa initial report, lumalabas the carrying capacity of the island is 55,000 people including population, workers, and tourists. Overall, tourist maximum is 19,000,” Año said.
The DILG executive also revealed that noisy parties including “LaBoracay” were already prohibited on the island.
The party on the island was allegedly the major factor of the overpopulation, which ranges from 40,000 to 50,000.
The Department also aims that Boracay would be an ideal tourist resort spot promoting a clean and peaceful environment.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat also revealed that smoking and drinking alcoholic drinks on the white beach of Boracay are already prohibited.
“Pwede ka mag-paa, hindi ka matatakot na baka masugatan ang paa mo dahil biglang may broken bottle pala, tapos alam mo yung nilalakaran mo ay talagang sand at hindi abo ng sigarilyo.” Puyat said.
