Recently, lots of reports about the amnesty grant to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV broke out. After reportedly failing to meet the minimum requirements, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte revoked his amnesty grant.
It was in 2011 when the Senator was granted amnesty by then-President Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III. The Senator, who was a former Navy lieutenant, was among the protesters under the administration of former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV protested against the alleged corruption under the term of the female president.
The revocation of the amnesty grant to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV gathered different reactions. Famous personalities and ordinary citizens commented on the issue. There were those who are in favor of it while there were also those who were disappointed.
The Department of Justice and the Armed Forces of the Philippines were already ordered to push through the charges against Sen. Trillanes. The police and the military were also instructed to use all the lawful means possible to arrest him.
According to Sen. Trillanes, no evidence can be found against him. He stressed that he will not escape nor resist arrest. According to him, his lawyers are already working on legal remedies.
The AFP was already tasked to assemble a general court-martial. According to military spokesman Edgard Arevalo, the Senator is now back on his military status following the revocation of his amnesty grant.
Currently, Sen. Trillanes is staying under the custody of the Senate.
