DOH Gives Precautionary Measures On Leptospirosis
The Department of Health (DOH) gives information about the symptoms and how to prevent leptospirosis.
This rainy season, massive floods and various types of diseases are very common in the country especially for those wading in floodwater.
Leptospirosis, a viral infection that can get from the urine of animals like rats is one of the most common diseases we can get when immersing in floodwaters.
Recently, DOH has warned the public regarding the risk of being infected with leptospirosis by wading a floodwater contaminated with urine.
The infection could cause damage to the liver, lungs, and bones, which could make the patient turn yellowish in color.
It could also cause internal bleeding and eventually leads to the death of the patient.
The health department has enumerated the symptoms of the disease and give tips to the public to prevent being infected.
Symptoms:
- Fever
- Body Pain
- Redness in the Eye
- Yellowish Skin
- Cough
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Tea-Colored Urine
Prevention:
- Prevent Wading in Floodwater
- Use Rubber Boots if Need To Wade In Flood
- Reduce Rat Population By Using Mouse Traps & Rat Poison
- Keep Cleanliness In The Surroundings
DOH also advised the public to consult a doctor if suffering fever for a couple of days.
