2017 COA Report Shows Calida Among Top Paid Gov’t Officials

The 2017 COA report shows that Solicitor General Jose Calida is among the top highest paid government officials.

The 2017 Report on Salaries and Allowances by the Commission on Audit (COA) shows that Calida earned an amount of P10,917,156.49  last year.

Calida becomes the fourth highest paid official who received the highest salaries and allowance last year in government agencies and in government-owned and -controlled corporations.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr. (P14.92 million) and Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo (P13.5 million), and Development Bank of the Philippines CEO Cecilia Borromeo (P12.46 million) are the top paid government officials who earned more than the solicitor general.

President Rodrigo Duterte only earned around P2.81 million and 2.89 million last year while Vice President Leni Robredo earned P2.31 million and 2.58 million.

COA’s 2017 annual audit report on the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) shows that Calida’s annual salary for 2017 was only P1.83 million but allegedly received an “excess” allowance of P8.37 million.

Calida was assigned as the solicitor general after President Duterte took office in July 2016.
