‘Citizen Jake’ filmmaker revealed that he is disappointed with Atom Araullo.
ATOM ARAULLO – The director of ‘Citizen Jake’, Mike De Leon, shared the reason behind why Atom Araullo has disappointed him.
Atom Araullo is a former Kapamilya reporter who transferred to GMA and who currently has a film showing in selected cinemas which talks about politics and events in the society playing a character similar to his real-life job.
‘Citizen Jake’ is the very first film of Mike De Leon after 18 years in hiatus and is about the life of Jake Herrera (Araullo), an estranged son of a powerful politician who is urged by his father to be in the same field.
Aside from Araullo, also part of movie are Cherie Gil, Dina Bonnevie, Nonie Buencamino, Adian “Luis” Alandy, Gabby Eigenmann, Max Collins, Teroy Guzman, Lou Veloso, Richard Quan, with Victor Neri, Allan Paule, Anna Luna, Elora Españo, Cholo Barretto, Raquel Villavicencio, Nanding Josef, and Ruby Ruiz.
However, just before the movie had its commercial run, the director has shared something in a lengthy post on Facebook which is now deleted.
Yet, according to a report from the ABS-CBN, the director has indicated in his post, “I only realized later that Atom’s journalism was not exactly the kind of journalism I had in mind. It’s not the gritty kind but more of the celebrity-centered schlock that sometimes verges on entertainment, even showbiz.”
“Looking back, I can see why he wanted to become a movie actor. Perhaps the journalist was really a closet movie star,” he added.
Moreover, the filmmaker said that the actor’s contribution in the film was “substantial” and believes that the reporter did a good job and “there were scenes where he acted unevenly but there were also scenes, many of them major, where he was terrific.”
In his extensive post as per the report, a netizen has commented that Araullo was a revelation and not disappointing but the director responded that he has disappointed him “not as an actor but as a person.”
