Joel Cruz sues Brunei-based businesswoman Kathelyn Dupaya.
JOEL CRUZ – The “Lord of Scents” Joel Cruz files Estafa case against the Brunei-based businesswoman Kathelyn Dupaya following million-worth investment which was not returned to him.
The perfume magnate Joel Cruz was devastated after the businesswoman Kathelyn Dupaya who is based in Brunei has taken away his P40-million investment.
He filed a lawsuit against the businesswoman together with his legal counsel Atty. Ferdinand Topacio on May 24 in the Department of Justice in Quezon City.
Cruz decided to seek legal action following not receiving any amount since 2017 from his investment which is worth P40-million.
According to a report from the ABS-CBN News, he said, “Starting December 5, 2017, up to now, wala na siyang ibinigay na interes na promise niya may 6 percent interest doon… It’s Philippine money, P29,750,000 plus US$200,000 [ang ipinuhunan ko], ani Cruz. “Kung nasa P52 ngayon ang rate, nasa P40 million na lahat-lahat.”
He also shared how the businesswoman deceived him to have his investment back through fake bank transactions and pieces of jewelry which did not come.
Cruz is not the only who invested with Dupaya. Other celebrities who had the same sentiments and invested with the Brunei-based businesswoman are Dianne Medina, Sunshine Cruz, Ynez Veneracion, and Ara Mina.
Dupaya, on the other hand, has stated, “I acknowledge my debt to Mr. Joel Cruz. I was able to pay more [than] P17 million of this debt. He was charging me 1% a day on balance and this caused his total demand on me to be as large as he says this debt is. I am in the process of securing a loan. He agreed to wait on these loans I am securing against my properties. I fully intend to pay my debt granted we come to reasonable terms and a humane computation on interests accrued.”
