Netizen Shares Poor Fast-food Employee’s Working Condition

A concern netizen has shared the poor fast-food employee’s working condition who’s nearly 48 hours straight on her duty.

A Facebook user named Alexandra Craig Yulo has shared the terrible working condition of a fast-food employee.

Yulo narrated that she was forced to walk when no public utility vehicles want to take her home. Along the way, she decided to bought truffle fries at Potato Corner.

While waiting for her fries, the concerned netizen accidentally heard the conversation between the Potato Corner staff and Burger Machine employee.

The netizen learned that the Burger Machine employee will be working for 48 hours again if her reliever won’t report on duty to replace her post.

The fast-food work allegedly said that the company pays P350 for her 8 hours duty and ‘Overtime’ is optional only, so it’s up to the company whether they will pay the worker’s overtime or not.

During rush hour, medjo nawalan ako ng swerte makasakay pauwi. I was still a few blocks away from my house when no Grabcar wanted to take my booking, no Grabtaxi wanted to take me, pati real life taxi na kailangan ko parahin para tumigil – walang tumigil, pati tricycle ayaw ako isakay — kahit ako yung dapat umayaw sa tricycle kasi baka matetano ako sa kalawang, pero hindi, si koya talaga ang may lakas loob na umayaw. Pasensya na ho na ginusto ko sumakay sa trike ninyo. sensya na. While waiting for my truffle fries. Si Ate of Burger Machine asked ate of Potato Corner kung pwede makitext, wala daw siya load. Matagal maluto si truffle fries so I accidentally overheard the conversation.

Potato Corner Ate: Ano dadating ba? (referring to Burger Machine Ate’s Karelyebo, one who’s replacing her shift)
Burger Machine Ate: Mukang Malabo, hindi sumasagot e. 48 hours na naman ako nito..
Potato Corner Ate: Tawagan mo ulit.
Alex na gutom: 48 hours? Ang alin po?
Burger Machine Ate: ah ma’am. yung shift ko po.
By this time I was really intrigued….48 hours, so dalawang araw?! (in my head, so ano yun? walang ligo?)
Alex na mas gutom: Ano yun, 48 hours na tuloy tuloy? bawal maligo (syempre tinanong ko talaga) Kelan po kayo pumasok?
Burger Machine Ate na tumawa dahil sa ligo question: Opo tuloy tuloy, pumasok ako kagabi ng 9:30 pm. so dapat uwi na po ako ng 9:30 ngayon. pag hindi siya dumating tuloy tuloy po ako ng 9:30 bukas ng gabi, pag dumating siya ng 9:30 bukas ng umaga. eh di 36 hours nalang po. bawal po talaga maligo, kahit nakauwi na kasi mapapasma. masama po yun sa puyat.

By this time, I was really shock how casual she’s explaining her working hours like it’s the accepted normal. Ate of Potato Corner responded to my shock face with “wala pa yan, yung isa na pinalitan niya 100 hours nag shift”. 100 HOURS NAG SHIFT! 100 HOURS! APAT NA ARAW?

nawala yung gutom ko sa awa. and here are a few things I found out with Burger Machine Ate, by now whom I addressed as Ate Rose. She’s being paid 350 for 8 hours and their OT is optional, meaning sometimes binabayaran sometimes hindi.
HR doesn’t care. when they text “rescue” because they feel ill already. HR will reply with “papunta na kapalit” but really it’s the kapalit for the next day. So her shift ends 36 hours after. She did mention that not all Burger Machine work this way as others are franchises and dealers, they are however directly under the company. Sabi ko, “what if hindi na kaya, bawal isara?” and Ate of Potato Corner said “May gumawa na nun dati, sinara niya, kasi di na kaya. kinasuhan kasi may nawala “daw”. kaya bawal isara kasi mawawalan sila ng trabaho, makakasuhan pa sila”.

For all my friends who own a food stall, I got Ate Rose’s number. Perhaps, there’s a better opportunity waiting for her. I want to end this post by helping someone.

And next time, you pass by a Burger Machine… ask kung ilang oras na sila nakashift? And remember how blessed you are with your work.
