Impending Solar Storm Set To Hit Earth This Week

The Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) warned that an impending solar storm was set to hit the planet Earth this week.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm watch during this week due to the arrival of negative polarity coronal hole high-speed stream.

Alex Young, associate director for science in the heliophysics science division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center said that at least three substantial coronal holes had been found in the Sun last week.

Youn explained that those holes contain high-speed solar wind that can cause aurora’s appearance near the poles.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) also explained what really happens during a solar flare.

“A solar flare is an intense burst of radiation coming from the release of magnetic energy associated with sunspots. Flares are our solar system’s largest explosive events,” NASA said quoted by Nypost.

NASA also gives a number of events that could possibly happen during a solar storm including increase the brightness of auroras, weaken the grid fluctuations, minor damage to Earth-orbiting satellites degrades high-frequency radio waves, and confuses the internal comp(–foul word(s) removed–) of marine mammals.

NASA scientists also said that the public does not have anything to worry because it can’t physically impact the planet since the Earth’s magnetic field keep us well-protected.
