Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre Fired From Duterte Administration?
Did President Rodrigo Duterte fire Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II from his administration after the dismissal of charges against alleged drug lords?
Earlier this week, there are some speculations that President Duterte has dismissed Aguirre from his post following the dismissal of criminal charges against Kerwin Espinosa, Peter Lim, and other alleged drug personalities.
The speculations were stirred up by Duterte’s statement during his speech in Davao City that he will ax more officials involved in illegal and anomalous activities.
On Tuesday (April 03, 2018), Malacañang Palace has disclosed the speculations after the camp of Aguirre denied that Mr. Duterte has fired the DOJ secretary.
Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes explained that Aguirre is now undergoing a routine check-up, which was the main reason for his consecutive absences at his office in the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Balmes also said he has not received any reports that Aguirre had been dismissed from the Duterte Administration.
“Parang wala naman pong dumating na ganyan na news dito po sa amin. Ang alam ko po si SOJ is having his routine checkup today,” Balmes said.
