Virginia Mayo-Policarpio Savors Success Abroad
VIRGINIA MAYO-POLICARPIO – A Filipina born in Batangas, Virginia Mayo-Policarpio, is now an IBM’s senior IT specialist and cybersecurity expert.
There are lots of Filipinos outside the Philippines who are truly a pride of the country. One of them is Virginia Mayo-Policarpio who managed to rise from life’s struggles and excel in her field.
We learned from Balitang America that the said Filipino was born in Batangas. She was recently honored at New York Philippine Consulate. She was just 12 years old when they moved to the United States.
According to Virginia Mayo-Policarpio, she went abroad with the belief that she will become a doctor. That was not what awaited her and her family there.
Based on the report, Virginia Mayo-Policarpio shared that she shed tears and life was difficult for them. They lived in the basement of an apartment. Her father worked as a cook and her mother worked as a cashier.
“But I think that really shaped who I am,” she said.
Based on the report, Virginia and her mother had to clean homes. She expressed that she was the one taking all the blinds in the house. According to her, it was when she had the “aluminum blonds soaking in soapy water” that she made a deal with herself to work hard.
She promised herself to work hard and to study well so that she and any of her future children will not have to clean homes so they can earn money.
Hard work and persistence can really bring you far in life. Virginia Mayo-Policarpio can attest to that. Based on the report, she finished college with a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management at the New Jersey Institue of Technology.
The Batangas-born also studied IT Technology and Computer Engineering in the same educational institution. She is now the senior IT specialist and cybersecurity expert of IBM.
“What drove me to the profession is to invent something that’s never been invented before, it’s something that is in my heart, you know as a human being, you wanna do something and you wanna go to uncharted territories and discover new things,” she reportedly expressed.
