Justice Committee Of The House of Representatives Found Probable Cause To Impeach Chief Justice Sereno
The justice committee has found a probable cause and evidence during a hearing to impeach Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
The House justice panel has discovered the evidence to try Sereno for corruption, betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution with a vote of 38-2.
The voting result came after the panel had discussed the result of Sereno’s psychological exam, which happened last February 28, 2018, during the four-hour executive session.
The probable cause to impeach Sereno was filed by lawyer Larry Gadon moved by Reps. Eugene de Vera of ABS party-list and Deputy Speaker Gwen Garcia of Cebu.
The two members who opposed the impeachment of Sereno were Jose Christopher Belmonte of Quezon City and Reps. Arlene Bag-ao of Dinagat Islands.
Articles of Impeachment are expected to send by the committee to a plenary within 10 to 60 days to decide whether Sereno would be removed from her post or not.
About 98 members of the House Plenary wanted to impeach Sereno and become the second chief justice to be fired on the post.
