Filipino Journalist Rolando Espina Passes Away At 84

The veteran Filipino journalist Rolando Espina or known as ‘Rolly’ has passed away at the age of 84 at his residence in Bacolod City.

Around 5:45 pm on Thursday (December 28, 2017), the 84-year-old veteran journalist Rolando ‘Rolly’ Espina has died, which was confirmed by his daughter Inday Espina-Varona through social media post.

Inday Varona has posted on her Facebook account confirming and expressing her sadness regarding the death of his beloved father.

Espina worked as a journalist for over 50 years from the pre-Martial Law Manila Chronicle to bureau chief of the Philippine News Agency.

The journalist served as a correspondent for different wire agencies and international periodicals, according to Varona.

The latter also served in several local news outlets such as for the Philippine Daily Inquirer and the Philippine as news editor.

Rolly, an award-winning journalist has also served as the vice president of National Press Club twice, Negros Press Club’s president, Negros Daily Bulletin’s chairman, and co-founded Visayan Daily Star.

The 84-year-old journo was married to Lourdes Llavore who passed away in September 2000 and had 11 children, 23 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren with her.
