Duterte Says September 21 Not A Holiday, Although There’s No Work, No Class

President Rodrigo Duterte says that he will not declare September 21, 2017, as a holiday, although there will be no work and no cl(–foul word(s) removed–).

Previously, Malacañang Palace declares 5 special holidays this month of September in selected areas in the Philippines. Works and cl(–foul word(s) removed–) is suspended on the specific dates of September 18, 20, 21, 27, and 29.

September 21, 2017, is one of the dates declared by the palace as a special holiday due to the 45th anniversary of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos declaration of martial law in the Philippines.

Holiday

On Monday (September 18, 2017), Mr. Duterte clarifies that September 21 will not be a holiday instead, it will be a day of protest.

“September 21 is not a holiday, I have declared it a day of protest. Yung gusto mag protesta laban sa gobyerno, laban sa pulis, laban sa military o lahat, magbabaan kayo lahat,” said by Duterte quoted by ABS-CBN.

The president also urged the protesters not to commit crimes on that day because the military and police officers will remain in their barracks, but traffic enforcers will remain on their post.

Holiday

Duterte said that the government officials will have their own rally over lack of allowances, equipment, and low salaries. He also humorously said that he will also join the protest over low salary.

He also clarifies that there will be no work on September 21, 2017, but did not confirm if the suspension of cl(–foul word(s) removed–) covers both public and private schools and universities.
