An official from the Philippines National Police (PNP) has revealed that there’s a list of barangay captains who are allegedly involved in illegal drugs.

On Monday (August 14, 2017), PNP Deputy Director for Operations Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Licup has admitted that the list of barangay official involved in illegal activities really exists.

The PNP executive also told Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel that his office might be also involved in the validation of the list. “There is a list, sir, pero I’m not familiar with the list neither my office is involved in the validation,” Licup told Pimentel.

However, the PNP official could not yet confirm whether the list only contains the name of the corrupt barangay officials or also includes other government officials.

Licup made the statement during the hearing about the planned postponement of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this year, which was pushed by President Duterte as he accused around 40 percent of barangay captains nationwide was involved in illegal drugs.

The cop was also asked by Parañaque Rep. Gus Tambunting of he agrees to disqualify the barangay officials confirmed involved in illegal drugs. Licup responds that they will do proper police actions if it is validated.
