The implementation of the nationwide smoking ban will take effect on Sunday (July 23, 2017). As DPH urged LGU leaders to form smoke free task forces.

On Friday (July 21, 2017) the Department of Health (DOH) was urging the local government unit (LGU) leaders to create smoke free task forces. DOH order was in line with the government’s implementation of smoking ban nationwide.

DOH spokesman Eric Tayag said in a press conference that they were expecting that the LGU’s will organize a smoke-free task force, which usually came from DOH who will become the team leader.

“Inaasahan namin na ang pamahalaang local ay mag-organize na ng kanilang smoke-free task force. Pangkaraniwan ang siyang kumakatawan sa sanggunian nila sa pangkalusugan ang siyang nagiging team leader po,” said by Tayag quoted by Manila Bulletin.

The nationwide smoking ban will be effective starting on Sunday (July 23, 2017) as President Rodrigo Duterte signed the Executive Order (EO) No. 26 “Providing for the Establishment of Smoke-Free Environments in Public and Enclosed Places.”

Smoking in public places such as premises and vicinity of public hospitals, private hospitals, elevators, stairwells, medical clinic, dental clinic, optical clinics, elementary schools, high schools, play schools, preparatory schools, colleges, and universities.

Nationwide Smoking Ban

On Saturday (July 22, 2017), Makati City officials will march on the streets to promote the nationwide smoking ban. The city government led an anti-smoking starting at the Makati City Hall Quadrangle.

Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay also said that the city government expresses their full support to the nationwide smoking ban of President Duterte.

The representatives and officials from the Department of Environmental Services, Liga ng mga Barangay, Department of Public Safety, Makati Police, DepEd Makati, the Makati Action Center, city Law Department, Engineering Department, Information and Community Relations Department will participate in the activity in Makati City.
