Former DENR Sec. Gina Lopez shared something about the Tondo residents.
GINA LOPEZ – Former secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Gina Lopez revealed the place of origin of the people living in Tondo.
Recently, videos crossed the Facebook page of Gina Lopez. In one of the videos, it could be seen that the former environment Secretary compared Tondo with Makati.
According to Lopez, Tondo before was the cultural capital of the Philippines. She said that the former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada was from Tondo and as well as her grandmother.
The former environment Secretary said that the place is really well-known before.
“Talagang sikat. Yan ang parang Makati. Tingnan mo ngayon,” expressed the former DENR Secretary.
It could be seen in the videos posted on the social media page that there are really lots of garbage surrounding Tondo and it is not a safe place due to the dirty environment.
Based on the caption of the post, the place filmed is the Esteros de Magdalena in Tondo.
According to Gina Lopez, some of the people living in the area claimed that they came from Zamboanga, Mindanao, and Cotabato.
“Tanong ko sa kanila, ‘Bakit kayo nandito?’ like why are you living like this here,” she said.
Lopez stressed that in the area development, there is a need to develop the islands so people need not to come to the city.
Lots of netizens praised the former environment Secretary for her concern to the place and as well as to the people.
According to a Facebook user, no DENR Secretary would be like her.
One netizen stated in his comment to the post that there is a need to provide employment opportunities in the provinces so the people there need not to come to the city and squat.
Based on a previous news report, it was just recently when the former environment Secretary was replaced after her appointment was rejected by the panel of Commission on Appointments (CA).
