DepEd Releases Calendar For S.Y. 2017-2018, Opening Of Classes Revealed!

The DepEd has officially released the school calendar for the next school year.

DEPED – The Department of Education (DepEd) has officially released the calendar for the school year 2017-2018.

The month of June is fast approaching and students are already preparing for another school year to conquer in the academic aspect of their lives. Recently, the DepEd has released the school calendar which entails the date of the opening of classes.

Based on a recent post in the Republic of the Philippines Department of Education site, it is stated on the DepEd Order 25, series of 2017 that the next school year shall begin on June 5, 2017. That will fall on a Monday.

The said order which was addressed to undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, bureau and service directors, regional directors, schools division superintendents, public and private elementary and secondary school heads, and all other personalities concerned was released on the 5th day of May 2017.

It is mentioned in the order that the next school year will be composed of a total of 204 school days and the students are expected to report to school for 195 class days.

The 204 school days include the four days for the conferences between the teachers and parents and the In-Service training which will consume five days.

Based on the order, private schools have the option not to follow the date of the opening of classes but they should not begin with their classes “earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August.”

While the start of classes will start on a Monday, the end of classes will fall on a Friday – April 6, 2018.

Based on the order, the schools are suggested to hold make-up classes in case there are instances that some classes were cancelled due to holidays, event celebrations, and calamities may it be naturally-caused or man-made.

Plans to conduct make-up classes must be discussed and agreed between the heads of the school and the parent-teacher associations.
