Military Base Near Korean Demilitarized Zone Visited by U.S Vice President Mike Pence

The U.S Vice President Mike Pence has visited the military base near the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), amid tension between U.S and North Korea.

On Sunday (April 16, 2017), the 45th U.S President Donald Trump said that the United States was currently working with China in resolving their problem with North Korea.

On Monday (April 17, 2017, U.S Vice President Pence has arrived at the Camp Bonifas, a military base near the Demilitarized Zone to meet American troops station in the area. Pence visited the joint U.S.-South Korean military camp near the 2.5-mile-wide DMZ despite the rising tension on the Korean Peninsula.

Korean Demilitarized Zone

Pence gas began his 10-day trip to Asia despite the heated rhetoric and rising tensions in North Korea, who recently failed on their missile tests. Previously, U.S President Trump has ordered to launch missile attacks against Syria after a deadly chemical attack.

H.R. McMaster said in an interview that the U.S would rely on its allies including China to address its problem with North Korea because they are very vulnerable to pressure from the Chinese.

Pence was tasked to reassure allies from Japan and South Korea and to explain the policy during the meeting including Australia and Indonesia. U.S will also take appropriate steps to prevent North Korea’s aggression.

Korean Demilitarized Zone

On Saturday (April 15, 2017), North Korean military troops were gathered in Pyongyang for a show of strength. It was followed by a failed missile on Sunday when the missile blew up during launch, which was monitored by U.S and South Korean officials.

The White House foreign policy adviser said that North Korea tried to launch a medium-range missile when it suddenly explodes about 4 to 5 seconds after it was released. North is developing mid-range and long-range missile aiming to target U.S mainland.
