President Rodrigo Duterte accused the owners of Philippine Daily Inquirer were not paying their taxes properly on the previous administration.

Previously, Mr. Duterte releases distasteful remarks against the Philippine Daily Inquirer for alleged feeding the public with garbage news. He also said that Prietos family who owns the newspapers also owns a donut business.

President Duterte said that Inquirer has billions of tax deficiencies and explained that he need money to properly run the country. He also gives a deadline to all tax evaders in paying their tax dues, but he did not yet give a specific date.

Henares and internal revenue deputy commissioner Estela Sales were accused by a former internal revenue examiner of violating the Anti-graft law and Corrupt Practices Act for alleged failure to collect Golden Donut’s P1.56 billion tax deficiencies in 2014.

The tax deficiencies were found from the financial records of the said donut company in 2007 when it was examined by the complainant named Othello Dalanon. But Henares denied the accusation and claimed that Dalanon conducted a wrong (–foul word(s) removed–)sment on Golden Donut’s tax dues.
