An officer of the Bacolod BIR has been caught extorting money from a company.
BACOLOD BIR – An officer I of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental Province has been caught extorting money during the entrapment operation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation.
Based on a recent news report in Bombo Radyo, the operations manager of a certain company, Genevieve Buenaflor of the JP Ramos Trading Corporation, sought the help of the NBI after Revenue Officer I Julie Hernaez asked an additional payment on the corporate tax.
The tax charged to the company according to the report is amounting to P125,000. Hernaez allegedly asked for an additional payment of P125,000 which leads to a total of P250,000. However, based on the report, the half of the total amount would go to the BIR employee.
According to the news report, the money is a payment to the said employee so she would release the form that would be presented to the bank to show that only P125,000 tax payment should be paid.
According to NBI Bacolod District Office’s special investigator William de Arca, the transaction between Hernaez and the company has started last year and it was just yesterday that it was accomplished.
It was de Arca who handed the money the P125,000 to Hernaez. Based on the news report, de Arca handed the P25,000 cash money and a cheque amounting to P100,000 to the BIR officer.
The NBI entrapment operation was conducted at the office of the BIR according to the report. Currently, the Revenue District Office No. 77 in Bacolod City can be located in Barangay Mansilingan.
Based on the news report, the case that would be filed against the BIR officer who was caught extorting money is already being prepared.
