Thousands Pack Of Cigarettes Containing Fake Tax Stamps Discovered By BIR
Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) discovers thousands pack of cigarettes with fake tax stamps from a warehouse in Pampanga.
Red lights on the sensor are one of the indications of fake tax stamps, which was detected thousands pack of cigarettes stored in 5 warehouses in Pampanga. The pack of cigarettes with fake stamps in the warehouse were amounting of about P2 billion.
Last Wednesday (March 01, 2017), the usage of fake tax stamps of factories in Pampanga was discovered by Bureau of Customs (BOC). BIR is now planning to implement a campaign for the eradication of fake tax stamps.
The equivalent tax collection in the year 2016 drops by almost P12 billion. The tax collection from cigarette companies in 2015 was P97.3 billion, but it suddenly drops to P85.9 billion in 2016. BIR believes that fake tax stamps are one of the main reason for the tax reduction.
Caesar Dulay, BIR Commissioner explained to the stakeholders such as manufacturers and company owners the possible steps on eliminating the spreading fake stamps.
BIR urges the companies for additional personnel in surveillance team who will regularly inspect the stamps. Installation of CCTV is also required for daily monitoring of stamp. They also conduct an information campaign for the local government units for the identification of fake stamps.
Teresita Angeles, BIR Assistant Commission said that the agreement between BIR, cigarette manufacturers, and Philippine Retailer’s Association to ensure that the tax stamps were genuine before selling
BIR also urge the retailers to monitor the stamps of their cigarette product. The agency also said that tax evasion can b also considered as robbery.
