Lacson: ‘There are several instances na na-tokhang, nag-surrender, and then na-lista and then napatay’

Sen. Lacson cited the problem with PNP’s ‘Oplan Tokhang’.

LACSON – Senator Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson bravely cited the problem with the ‘Oplan Tokhang’ operations of the Philippine National Police.

Right after the Duterte Administration has assumed office, the war on drugs campaign has begun. Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the former mayor of Davao City, is a loud critic of illegal drugs.

During the campaign election, he has even vowed to clean the Philippines from illegal drugs within three to six months. Undeniably, last year, the people have started to witness the extent of illegal drugs in the country.

Many previous news reports entailed about discovered illegal drug laboratories in some parts of the country. Furthermore, many users and pushers of illegal drugs have surrendered themselves to the authorities.

However, recently, after an incident, the alleged kidnapping and killing of Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo wherein there are cops who are allegedly involved, Pres. Duterte decided to suspend the war on drugs campaign based on a previous news report.

The move to put on hold the war on drugs is to give attention to the cleansing of the national police power. Based on a recent ABS-CBN News report, Sen. Lacson expressed agreement with the move as he spoke to ANC’s “Beyond Politics”.

According to the report, the Senator said that he ‘thinks it’s a correct message to send to the people and even probably to the Korean government and the Korean people’. However, the Senator pointed out that the war on drugs campaign should not be ‘totally’ abandoned.

Meanwhile, Sen. Lacson has pointed out some aspects regarding the PNP’s Oplan Tokhang operations. According to the report, the Senator said that the move can “infringe on human rights and even privacy”.

“There are several instances na na-tokhang, nag-surrender, and then na-lista and then napatay. So ito yung mga problema na dapat tinignan muna,” the Senator pointed expressed according to the report.

Furthermore, it is also stated in the report that Sen. Lacson said that the law enforcers were overwhelmed by passion and pressured by the deadline so they do whatever they can.
