Forbes Tagged Manny Pacquiao As One Of Boxing MVP’s In 2016
Forbes.com ranked Manny Pacquiao as one of the “Most Valuable Players” of boxing in 2016, despite being in the twilight of his career.
Josh Katzowitz of Forbes.com ranked the Filipino boxing superstar as No.4 on the boxing MVP list of 2016. Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward tied in the first place, while the 2nd spot was earned by Gennady Golovki, and the third spot was claimed by Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Manny Pacquiao’s victory over Timothy Bradley last April 2016 and Jessie Vargas last November 2016 contributes to his achievements this in able to include him on the high-ranking. Bradley and Vargas were both defeated by Pacman via unanimous decision.
Pacquiao was able to regain the WBO welterweight title by beating Vargas during their match last month. Katzowits also emphasized the multi-tasking role of the Filipino icon for being a Philippine senator and a boxer at the same time.
“He’s a senator in the Philippines but he made time to fight Jessie Vargas in November, made at least $4 million and looked quite good while winning,” said by Katzowitz quoted by Philstar.
The Filipino boxer also plans to fight twice next year and expecting a rematch whether on Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Juan Manuel Marquez but nothing is scheduled as of now. Katzowitz also mentioned that a match against Terence Crawford might be possible for Manny and might be one of the most anticipated matches next year.
Terrence Crawford earned the 10th spot 2016 MVP list on Forbes.com. He has also shown an impressive performance this year for being an undefeated fighter.
The 38-year-old Filipino boxer had still no clear move or plan for next year. But his coach Freddie Roach wants to pit him against the 29-year-old Crawford. Roach wanted to set a fight for the unified WBO and WBC super lightweight champion at 140 pounds.
