A court in Iloilo City has released the Odicta brothers Darryl and Michael Kevin.
ILOILO CITY – A court has granted the petition for habeas corpus of the lawyer of the sons of the late Melvin Odicta Sr.
The war against illegal drugs has undeniably intensified as months passed by. Despite the thick pile of papers containing the names of drug suspected people, Pres. Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte has reportedly expressed that there is no stepping back from it.
Way back during the election campaign, the former mayor of Davao City who went out as the victor in the 2016 presidential election against other four prominent and strong candidates for the presidency has been very vocal on his madness towards illegal drugs.
He has vowed to clean the country from its presence within three to six months. Since the start of the campaign against illegal drugs, many drug users and pushers have already surrendered to the authorities.
Lots of drug laboratories have even been discovered by the cops and the other authorities in the field. On a previous news report, it is stated that the sons of the suspected drug Lord Melvin Odicta Sr. has been arrested by the authorities.
Based on the report, the personnel of Region 6 Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-6) and elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) nabbed the three sons of Odicta Sr.
The report also made mention that found suspected illegal drugs and firearms in the Odicta residence at Barangay Malipayon, Iloilo City during a drug raid led to the arrest of the Odicta siblings.
Furthermore, their lawyer, Atty. Marbehn Lombo, was also arrested. In a recent news report in Inquirer, it is stated that two of the three Odicta sons have been released by the authorities.
Based on the report, a habeas corpus petition of Atty. Isagani Pilaspilas has been granted by an Iloilo Court and led to the release of Darryl and Michael Kevin Odicta. However, the elder brother of the Odicta siblings, Melvin Jr., remains behind the bars.
Atty. Pilaspilas pointed out in the petition that the search warrant served by the authorities only covered Melvin Jr. and that the arrest and detention of the two other sons of Melvin Sr. were not aligned to legality according to the report.
The released Odicta brothers put down their alleged involvement in the drug trade as they expressed that they have inherited from their late father his legitimate businesses, a restaurant and a taxi fleet.
