The video that circulating on the social media caught the attention of the online community as it shown how workers in Vietnam inject prawns with substances to make them look big and weigh more.
The Vietnamese producers have been filmed injecting shrimp with chemicals to look fresh when they are sold and imported.
According to a report from Mail Online, the disturbing video was shot by a Vietnamese TV station earlier this year.
The video revealed the top-secret of the Vietnamese producers of Prawns.
The horrific video is now going viral on social media as many of the angered Facebook users shared the video on the online world.
According to a report, the Vietnamese workers are injecting the prawns with a substance known as carboxymethyl cellulose or CMC.
Carboxymethyl cellulose or CMC is a “water-soluble anionic linear polymer” used as a food additive, as well as in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
The report clarified that the substance is not considered harmful. In fact, it can dissolve in water and becomes a smooth liquid before being pumped into the prawns.
Vietnam is considered as one of the largest source of imported prawns. In fact, it is labeled as the third biggest shrimp exporter in the world (after China and Thailand).
After the video went viral on the social media, many of the netizens have labeled the Vietnamese workers as ‘shameless’ and dishonest for trying to plump up the prawns.
The online community was outraged over the disgusting practice.
