Good Friday Tragedy: Vehicle Plows Through Procession; 1 Dead, Several Injured
GOOD FRIDAY – In a tragic turn of events on Good Friday in Bacolod, a reportedly drunk driver plowed through a religious procession, leaving one dead and twelve others injured.
A solemn Good Friday observance turned into a horrific tragedy in Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City, on April 18, 2025, when a speeding vehicle plowed through a religious procession, killing one person and injuring at least twelve others.
According to reports from Bombo Radyo Bacolod, the vehicle was being driven by a reportedly intoxicated Indian national. Witnesses said the driver had already struck a tricycle prior to barreling into the procession. The tricycle was allegedly pushed into a patrol car belonging to Bacolod Police Station 5.
Barangay Tanod Danilo Sanires, in an interview, revealed that the vehicle was seen traveling at high speed downhill before the incident. He confirmed that the procession was already underway when the vehicle suddenly rammed into the crowd, causing panic and chaos. One person died at the scene, while the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. Several remain in critical condition.
After the incident, the driver reportedly attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended by responding authorities. Witnesses claimed the driver appeared heavily intoxicated when arrested.
The tragedy has shocked the local community, especially given the solemnity of the occasion. Good Friday, a day of prayer and mourning for Christians, turned into a scene of bloodshed and heartbreak.
Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the sequence of events leading up to the crash, including the driver’s prior actions and his reported intoxication. Legal proceedings are expected following the results of the investigation.
