Steve Harvey Reveals Reason on Wrong Announcement of Miss U Winner

Steve Harvey confesses someone told him to announce Miss Colombia as Miss Universe 2015 winner, instead of Miss Philippines.

Host Steve Harvey finally revealed what really happened during the announcement of the winner of the renowned Miss Universe 2015 pageant last January.

During the coronation night, the 26-year-old Filipina-German actress and model Pia Wurtzbach was crowned amid much confusion after Harvey initially announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Arévalo of Sincelejo, Colombia as the winner of the 64th edition of the pageant.

Recently, in an interview with “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Harvey revealed he heard a man’s voice whispering over his ear piece to immediately read what’s written on the card he was holding. That card was bearing the name Colombia.

According to him, the man even told him they will just rectify the situation with media the following day.

However, Harvey did not agree and immediately went back on stage to announce the rightful winner, who is Pia Wurtzbach.

Harvey apologized and said he read the wrong results.

Pia was shocked, and so was Ariadna.

During that time, the Miss Universe crown was already placed on the head of Miss Colombia, but it was removed and transferred to Wurtzbach by Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega.

In the question and answer portion, when asked why she should be named Miss Universe (a question also asked of Miss USA and Miss Colombia), Pia answered:

“I will use my voice to influence the youth and I would raise awareness to certain causes like HIV awareness, that is timely and relevant to my country,” Pia said.

“To be a Miss Universe is both an honor and a responsibility,” Pia added.

“I want to show the world, the universe rather, that I am confidently beautiful with a heart,” Pia said, to the cheers of the live audience.

Wurtzbach becomes only the third Filipina to win the crown after Gloria Diaz and Margarita Moran.
