Pope Francis Declares Mother Teresa A Saint

Mother Teresa was canonized into sainthood by Pope Francis on Septmber 4, 4:45 in the afternoon (Philippine time).

Mother Teresa of Calcutta was canonized into sainthood by no less than Pope Francis in a ceremony held at St. Peter’s Square in Rome, Italy.

September 4, 2016, at 10 in the morning (Italian time) or 4:45 in the afternoon the Philippines, the Vatican cheered for joy as then Blessed Teresa was proclaimed a new saint by the Pope.

Before the canonization, Pope Francis said that Mother Teresa deserves to be canonized as saint and she must be followed by all of the faithful, just like all other saints canonized before her.

As the 79-year-old pontiff stood and spoke before thousands of faithfuls who visited to see the canonization for themselves and to the volunteers who helped in the rescue operations of the August 24 quake, he said that he is joyful that Mother Teresa s proclaimed saint.

“We will have the joy of seeing Mother Teresa proclaimed Saint. This testimony of mercy of our times joins the vast array of men and women who, in their holiness of life, have made the love of Christ visible. Let us also imitate their example, as we ask to be humble instruments in God’s hands in order to alleviate the world’s sufferings, and to share the joy and hope of the resurrection”.
