5th Zika Case Recorded In The Philippines
Another Zika infection has been recorded of a Korean who recently tested positive for the infection after visiting the Philippines, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

According to a report on Philstar, this is the fifth case of Zika virus that’s been recorded in the country, says DOH Secretary Janette Garin.
“We received information last Wednesday that a 39-year-old Korean has been found positive for Zika virus after visiting the country,” said Garin as quoted in the report.
She also confirmed that the Korean is currently confined in a hospital in Korea wherein the patient is recovering completely.
The reports say that the it was a 20-year-old Korean man who went on vacation in Boracay who was tested positive with the infection last month.
Garin also said that the DOH is coordinating the South Korean government regarding the latest case.
Although the Zika virus is present in the Philippines, Garin pointed out that all the cases were mild as the patients have recovered fast with no other complications.
What is Zika infection?
The DOH says that the Zika infection is a “self-limiting most of the time but its effects on the result of pregnancy cannot not be discounted. It has been linked to congenital CNS malformation like microcephaly.”
As of now, there is still no vaccine available to prevent the virus from spreading though its symptoms can be treated with common fever medicine, enough water intake, and right amounts of rest.
The common carrier of the Zika virus is the same carrier of dengue – the female Aedes mosquitoes. That’s why Garin urges everyone to participate in keeping the surroundings clean and help get rid of the breeding grounds of these mosquitoes in the country.
