Police and Military Reenact the Historic “Salubungan” at EDSA

An estimated 2,000 police and military personnel participated in the highly anticipated reenactment of the historic meeting of the Philippine Constabulary (PC) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) or more popularly known as “Salubungan” which leads to the People Power Revolution in 1986.

The members of the police and military marched on Epifanio De Los Santos Avenue on Thursday to reenact the historic meetings with their arms linked, the troops who wer led by star-rank officials marched from Edsa Santolan to the People Power monument where they met with former Pres. Fidel V. Ramos, the leader of the Philippine Constabulary during the Marcos Regime.

In the historic “Salubungan” two of the major players became respected and veteran politicians in the Philippines. Former Pres. Fidel V. Ramos was then the Philippine Constabulary chief, and Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile served as the Defense Minister during Marcos time but they later on left their post which caused the downfall of former Pres. Marcos and the people’s victory of the revolution on February 25, 1986.

During the reenactment of the “salabungan” which celebrated it’s 30th anniversary, Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor said that the traditional event signifies the unity and cooperation of the military and the police from the EDSA Revolution days up to the present.
