Protesters Greets Roxas-Robredo Tandem in First Metro Manila Campaign

Liberal Party’s candidates for President, Mar Roxas and his running mate Rep. Leni Robredo got a first taste of protests in Metro Manila during their first sortie in the national capital. Protesters were seen during the event when the Ro-Ro tandem went to the Bahay ng Alumni of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

Protesters from various sectors cried foul when “Daang Matuwid” presidential candidate Mar Roxas and Rep. Leni Robredo visited UP-Diliman to discuss concerns affecting the poor with the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC). According to the protesters, the candidates were guilty of electioneering by using a government agency to help their campaign in the 2016 national elections.

Some of the most intriguing facts that the protesters wanted to know about are the “Pork Barrel Controversy,” Aquino’s veto of the Social Security System (SSS) pension hike, the Mamasapano incident, and “criminal neglect” of Typhoon Yolanda survivors.

The NAPC meeting was not the only event wherein the administration party used as front for their campaigns, earlier reports stated that Pres. Aquino met with Municipal Mayors and Baranga Officials and pitched the continuation of his administration’s “Daang Matuwid.”

During the meeting with the NAPC, Mar Roxas discussed the continuation of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and the expansion of Philhealth coverage, while Robredo spoke about in-city or on-site relocation for informal settlers.
