The Commission on Elections (Comelec) released the certified list of names of presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2016 national elections on Friday afternoon. The names released by the poll body will appear on the official ballot in the upcoming elections.
Official List of Presidential Candidates:
Six candidates will be vying for the country’s top post or those who were vying for presidency, they were opposition leader Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of PDP-Laban, Sen. Grace Poe, Mar Roxas of LP, and OFW Family Club party-list Rep. Roy Partido ng Manggagawa at Magsasaka).
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Grace Poe’s name were included in the official list of certified candidates after the Comelec’s 1st division denied all petitions seeking to disqualify Duterte, while a petition by Sen. Grace Poe is being heard by the Supreme Court regarding the poll body’s resolution to cancel her certificate of candidacy.
For the Vice President, the second highest political post in the national elections, six names also appeared in the certified list of candidates.
The official Vice Presidential candidates are the following: Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Sen. Gringo Honasan (UNA), Sen. Ferdinang “Bongbong” Marcos, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo (LP), and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.
The Commission on Election (Comelec) previously said that they will start printing of the official ballots to be used in the May 2016 national elections this coming February 8, 2016.
