DOLE: Give 13th Month Pay of Workers “On or Before December 24, 2015”

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz reminded the owners of some 3,700 private businesses in the country to give the required 13th-month pay of their employees as mandated by law “on or before December 24, 2015.”

In an announcement released to the media, the DOLE Secretary was quoted as saying “All employers are required to pay their rank-and-file employees the 13th-month pay, regardless of the nature of their employment and irrespective of the methods by which their wages are paid, provided they have worked for at least one month during a calendar year,” Baldoz said.

According to Sec. Baldoz the compliance of the 23th-month pay by various companies slightly dipped in 2014 compared to the figures gathered by the Labor Department during the year 2012 and 2013.

Last 2014, DOLE recoreded a 94.23 compliance of the 13th-month pay, which is slightly lower compared to the 94.76 percent compliance rate in 2013 and 94.92 percent in 2012.

DOLE emphasized that giving the 13th-month pay would “foster good labor-management relations and increase workers and enterprises’ productivity and competitiveness in the workplace.”
