One of the country’s most popular rock icon, Chito Miranda, the “Parokya ni Edgar” frontman, who was considered as one of the most loyal and vocal supporter of Mayor Duterte even before the mayor of Davao was still undecided to run for President aired on social media that he will continue to support Mayor Duterte despite the controversy involving his statement against Pope Francis.
Mayor Duterte recently received flak from netizens and the CBCP leaders after the cursing incident involving Pope Francis which was misunderstood by the non-Duterte supporters. The mayor already clarified his statement that he was not cursing the Pope but the way the government handles the traffic during the visit of the Roman Catholic church leader in the country.
Meanwhile, despite the controversy involving Mayor Duterte and Pope Francis, Chito Miranda weighed in on he issue by posting a lengthy message on his Facebook Page on Thursday, where he said that he was not offended by the slur directed by the tough-talking mayor to Pope Francis.
Chito Miranda was quoted as saying “I value my faith more than anything, even my country. I love and respect the Pope a lot more than Duterte. Pero honestly, ‘di naman ako na-offend sa speech niya. ‘Di naman ganun katanga si Duterte para murahin niya si Pope sa context na pinapalabas ng ibang tao,” he said.
On Chito Miranda’s Twitter account, he also posted that although he was not offended by Mayor Duterte’s actor, the mayor should be sensitive to the faithful who might have been offended by his statement.
Chito Miranda tweeted the following statement:”’Di ko sinasabi na tama. He needs to be more sensitive. Madami talagang na-offend. Pero I don’t think yung religion natin ang tinitira niya,” he said.
