The country’s weather bureau, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that a blue moon is happening on July 31, 2015.
According to PAGASA’s statement since the blue moon was defined as the second of two full moons occurring in the same month, they stated that the Filipino public can witness the event at around 6:45 PM on Friday, July 31, 2015.
The weather bureau also explained that this month of July two full moons are expected with the first one already appeared last July 2 while the other is expected on July 31, making it appears as a blue moon, however they clarified that a “blue moon” has nothing to do with the physical color of the moon.
Experts also noted that the literal blue-colored moon may occur in certain atmospheric conditions such as volcanic eruptions and exceptionally large fires that emit particles in the atmoshpere.
PAGASA also announced that stargazers may also enjoy the Southern Delta Aquarids meteor shower that will be best viewed from July 28 to July 31, 2015.
