The controversial mayor of Davao City, Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte changed his tone during an interview and expressed an opennes to run for presidential election in 2016. According to Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, he heard friends and supporters urging him to run for President.
Aside from the noise made by Mayor Duterte’s supporters for him to convince to run for higher office, Mayor Duterte also rose consistently in the presidential preference survey conducted by Pules Asia and Social Weather Stations (SWS). Mayor Duterte ranked third and fourth among the list of possible and future president of the Philippines.
In the weekly program of Mayor Duterte, “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa” aired on Sunday he noted that he will now consider the idea of running for President. He was quoted as saying “I will consider the suggestion of my friends and supporters,” Duterte said.
According to the 70-year-old Mayor Duterte, the presidency is a destiny which only God could bestow on a person. Despite the controversy involving him to the alleged Davao Death Squad, the mayor of Davao saw a steady rise in ratings in the survey on possible presidential candidates.
Some political analysts noted that Mayor Duterte’s reluctance to run for President made his intentions to run for higher position still a mystery. One thing for sure the more people urged Mayor Duterte to run, the more people will also help on his popularity ratings.
