Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors was named as the NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time), the first-ever MVP for the Warriors since the time of Wilt Chamberlain in the 1960 NBA Season. The phenomenal point guard received the Maurice Podolof Trophy as he beat out Houston’s James Harden.
The “Baby Faced Assassin” Stephen Curry received 100 of 130 first-place votes for a total of 1,198 points from a panel of 129 writers and broadcasters, along with fan vote on the NBA’s website. He was able to defeat Houston Rocket’s James Harden who had 25 first-place votes and 936 points.
Former four-time NBA MVP Cleveland’s LeBron James finished third place overall with five first-place votes and 552 points while Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook got 352 points finishing fourth. Rounding up the Top 5 MVP contenders is New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis who got 203 points.
The 27-year-old Stephen Curry was born in Akron, Ohio but grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he started his basketball career in the shadows of his father, former NBA player Dell Curry.
Stephen Curry carried the top-seeded Golden State Warriors to a franchise-record 67 wins, surpased his own NBA record for most 3-pointers in a season and made into the NBA’s record books with 286 three-pointers in th regular season.
