Suspension of Classes on Saturday December 6 Due to Bagyong Ruby

Most of the local government units in various parts of the Visayas and Southern Luzon areas suspended classes on Saturday, December 6, 2014, due to the threat posed by typhoon Ruby (international name Hagupit). As of 4:00 AM today, December 6, Bagyong Ruby was spotted at 240 km East Northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar packing a maximum sustained winds of 195 near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph and forecasts to move at 10 kph.

PAGASA forecasts that Bagyong Ruby will make landfall on Sunday morning over the Eastern Samar-Northern Samar area. Bagyong Ruby is expected to be 45 kilometers north of Borongan, Eastern Samar or 110 km Southeast of Catarman, Northern Samar.

In the next 48 hours or on Monday morning, the typhoon is forecasts at 30 km East of Romblon, Romblon or in the vicinity of Sibuyan Island and on Tuesday morning it is expected to be at 150 km West of Calapan City, Mindoro.

PAGASA warned that the typhoon will bring storm surges of up to 4.5 meters (or almost 15 feet high) and heavy to intense rainfall within its 600 kilometer diameter.
