Michael Christian Martinez, a Filipino figure skater and had made name in figure skating had been brought back to ice through 2014 Lombardia Trophy held at Milan Italy yesterday, September 21, 2014. He placed 6th out of 13 countries who had participated in the competition.
Lombardia Trophy is an annual international figure skating competition. After which, the medals of the winners will be awarded in the discipline of men’s singles. ladies’ singles, and pair skating on senior, junior and novice levels.
This years competition happened in a bright day. Michael’s friends, supporters and family watched and waited for his return on the skaters ring. Although he had fallen during the free skate portion, he still ranked 6th out of 13 competitors. He got a total score of 199.92. After which, he really did not disappoints his supporters and friends for his performance. This is a news based on ABS-CBN.
Martinez being in the 6th slot had beat the rest of senior competitors from Europe. He is the only Southeast Asian participant in the said international competition.
First and fourth slot was got by USA. Second place for Japan and both second and fifth place for Russia.
With his performance, one of his fan said that “We’re proud of him.”
According to Nonie Belarmino, Michael is getting better and better. He also hope that Michael will be able to concentrate on his practice with his new coach. Just recently, SM group had given him 9m as an allowance for his training.
Michael’s next competition will be at the Grand Prix in Chicago. It will be broadcast nationally on American television.
