PNP Coron Say Grade 4 Student Was Not Beaten, Investigation Points to Sparring Incident
PNP Coron denied reports that a Grade 4 student was beaten up and stated that the child was allegedly involved in a sparring match.
The Coron Municipal Police Station released the result of their investigation and found that the Grade 4 student was not assaulted but had reportedly agreed to engage in a sparring match with another student.
The issue gained attention after a parent shared a post online alleging that her child, a Grade 4 pupil from Claudio Sandoval South Elementary School, had been attacked by three teenagers between the ages of 14 and 16.
However, police officials said their investigation did not support the allegations made in the viral post. According to Police Captain Mark RJ Sigue, who personally handled the investigation, statements gathered from student witnesses suggested that no group assault or bullying incident had taken place.
Based on the findings, the Grade 4 pupil was reportedly eating near the school when he encountered a Grade 5 student from another school. Witnesses said the two students challenged each other and later agreed to engage in a sparring match.
Authorities believe that the injuries sustained by the younger student resulted from that encounter.
The police clarified that the evidence and witness accounts they collected pointed to a mutual confrontation rather than an attack involving several older students. As a result, the initial claims circulating online were found to be inconsistent with the information gathered during the investigation.
Police expressed understanding toward the child’s mother, noting that her reaction likely came from concern and worry for her son’s condition. Authorities said it is natural for parents to become emotional when they believe their children have been harmed.
The Coron Municipal Police Station reminded parents to continue guiding and advising their children about proper behavior, especially while they are away from home and in school.
