The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed that a Magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit Jomalig Island in Quezon and other counterparts of Metro Manila on Wednesday night, September 3, 2014 at exactly 9:43 p.m.
According to its latest earthquake bulletin, the 5.5 Magnitude which struck off Quezon and the country’s capital earlier was tectonic in origin and it hit at a depth of 22 kilometers.
Here are the Intensity reports released by Phivolcs:
- Intensity III – Quezon City; Mandaluyong City; Guinayangan, Quezon; Gapan, Nueva Ecija
- Intensity III – Malolos and Obando Bulacan; Cainta and Montalban, Rizal;
- Intensity III – Antipolo City; Marikina City; San Mateo, Rizal; Daet, Camarines Norte;
- Intensity II – Sta. Rosa and Santa Cruz; Laguna; Tanza, Cavite; Makati City; Muntinlupa City;
- Intensity II – Taguig City; Malabon City
- Intensity I – Baguio City; Baler, Aurora
There are no immediate damage reported as of press time but the 5.5 Magnitude earthquake has recorded at least two aftershocks (M3.2 & M3.4) Phivolcs added that there are no Tsunami warnings triggered.
Phivolcs noted that “Magnitude 5 and 6 earthquakes are the “earthquakes with moderate strength and are felt over the wide areas; some of them cause small local damages near the epicenter.”
