Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile will be ordered for suspension in senate for 90 days. His suspension starts in Monday, September 1, 2014. This is due to his plunder and graft charger in connection to the pork barrel scam.
Senate President Franklin Drilon said that he will be implementing the suspension after such time that Sandiganbayan Thir Division denied the plea of Enrile. Since then, he will be suspended to be a senator for 90 days.
“Today I will implement the order of the Sandiganbayan on the suspension of Senator Enrile. I have no recourse but to implement this, as we received the order of the Sandiganbayan denying the motion for reconsideration of Senator Enrile,” Drilon said.
Enrile is the first of the three senators who were facing similar charges.
Based on Drilon, this order was was from Sandiganbayan and they have nothing to do but just to implement it. He also said that under the suspension, a certain senator can’t file bills, chair the committee hearings as well as to sign the reports of the committee.
However, the staff of the said senator will continue to get their salaries.
Drilon also said that he will be implementing the preventive suspension of Senator Jinggoy Estrada once he will receive the ruling of Sandiganbayan.
Seems that Sen. Estrada will already start to prepare on his soon to be suspension.
