Viral: Cebu Priest Berates Unwed Mom During Baptism Rites (Video)

A Cebu-based Catholic Priest became the hottest topic on social media for the past few days after a video on Facebook humiliating the unwed mom during a Baptism rites. The Priest berates the single-mom during a baptism rites which was held in Mandaue City. A video of the incident was posted on Facebook which went viral immediately after it was shared by some thousands netizens.

The Facebook video which was posted on July 6, 2014 already garnered more than 34K Shares, 8K Likes and more than hundreds of comments on Facebook alone.

Based upon the video posted originally by a certain Jieve Daitol Frias, who acknowledged on her later Facebook post that the unwed mother of the child was her own daughter.

During the incident, the priest who was later identified as Fr. Christopher Romeo Obach according to local newspaper Cebu Daily News, humiliates the young mother in front of more than 30 guests, which includes her classmates, the child sponsors, barangay officials, relatives and neighbors. The baptism ceremony was held Sacred Heart Chaplaincy of the Redemptoris Churh in Jabobiao, Mandaue City.

According to the unwed mother who was just 17 years old, she was really humiliated and hurt by the priest statement during the baptism right of her child.

Based upon the viral video posted on Facebook, Fr. Obach was quoted as saying “Ipanghambog ba ta ni, Day? Nga naa kay anak pero wa kay bana? Kaulaw ani, Day. Motago gani unta ka karon (Are you proud to be a mother without a husband? This is shameful. You should hide in shame).” the priest stated.
