Fil-Am JR Celski Qualifies for Semis in Sochi Winter Olympics

Filipino-American speed skater, JR Celski already qualifies for the semifinals in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics after he finished second in his heat on Monday, February 10, 2014.

The Fil-Am speed skater who represents the United States and considered as the leader of Team USA speed skating event finished second in Heat No. 3 of the 1500-meter short track skating.

The 23-year-old speed skater finished with 2:15.675 time, only behind Heat No. 3 leader D Woon Sin of South Korea whose time was recorded at 2.15.530.

The former bronze medalist of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada, JR Celski will compete in the semifinal of the 1500-m short track skating at around 7:00 PM today (Philippine Time). 

Before JR Celski journey to the Winter Olympics in Sochi, he admitted that he has a big shoes to fill after America’s most decorated Olympian, Apolo Anton Ohno left him as the leader of the US Team.

Ohno is described by JR Celski as his ultimate idol, the Olympian brought a total of eight (8) gold medals to the United States as the leader of Team USA during his reign as the overall leader of the Americans competing in the short track skating.
