Manny Paquiao is Newest UN Carlos Romulo Awardee

Another respectful institution recognized Manny Pacquiao for his outstanding contributions to the Philippines. The 35-year-old global boxing icon was given a citation by a group of international and local leaders.

Known as one of the icons in Filipino boxing, Pacquiao received the General Carlos P. Romulo Award from the United Nations (–foul word(s) removed–)ociation of the Philippines (UNAP). Carlos P. Romulo is recognized internationally as the first Filipino President of the UN General (–foul word(s) removed–)embly.

According to the press release of UNAP, the eight-time world champion deserved to be honored with this recognition because of his works and achievements as a boxer, as well as a politician, being the Congressman of Sarangani.

Pacquiao helped different charitable institutions and also conducted his own outreach programs. The recent charity work he did was donating basic needs and cash to the Yolanda victims in the Visayas after his victory over Brandon Rios in Macau.

Among the past awardees of UNAP were US based businesswoman Loida Nicolas Lewis and Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Patricia Licuanan.

However, Pacquiao faces tax evasion case after the Bureau of Internal Revenue reviewed his filed tax payments.

Manny Pacquiao rose to global prominence after he was dubbed internationally as the lone Filipino who was able to dominate the Mexicans as part of his boxing career. He first recognized by the boxing world as the boxer who made an upset against former featherweight title-holder and Mexican boxing icon Antonio Barrera.
