Doug Baldwin Carried Inverted Philippine Flag to Honor Yolanda Victims

Doug Baldwin of the Seatle Seahawks carried an inverted Philippine flag onto Century Link Field on Sunday during their match against Minnesota Vikings to honor the victims of super typhoon Yolanda.

According to a report from the Seatle Times, Baldwin has family members living in the Philippines, including his grandmother. Although Baldwin’s family and relatives in the Philippines were okay, it didn’t stop him from showing his support by carrying the country’s flag onto the field.

The photo of Doug Baldwin was also posted on the football team’s official Twitter account. Doug Baldwin photo immediately went viral on various social networking sites with most netizens giving gratitude to the gesture shown by a superstar in the National Football League.

The Seatle Seahawks posted the following tweets on their official Twitter account, “Please continue supporting #Haiyan relief. @DougBaldwinJr appreciates your generosity. #PinoyPower,” the Seahawks said in a tweet.

The Philippine flag with the red color on top signifies that the Philippines is at war. The inverted Philippine flag is used only during times of war. Seatle Seahawks answered the inquiries about the reasons of inverting the flag by posting the following tweets. “We are fighting the devastation of #Haiyan which has been worse than many war-torn regions of the world,” Seahawks tweeted.

The Seatle Seahawks won against the Minnesota Vikings with the final score at 41-20. The Seahawks is one of the favorite team to win this season after they managed to secure their 10th victory of the National Football League.
