Teachers who served as Board of Election Tellers (BETs) during the recently concluded Barangay Elections will receive a total of P2,500 for their efforts in making the nationwide barangay elections generally peaceful.
The Department of Education (DepEd) and the COMELEC lauded the works of public school teachers who served as BET’s during the election. According to DepEd Undersecretary Alberto Yumot, so far, there have been no complaints against the teachers and no reports of violent incidents where teachers were victims.
The Comelec and the DepEd announced that each teacher who served during the Barangay elections will be getting P2,000 as honorarium plus an additional P500 as transportation allowance. The teachers should be getting their payment on Tuesday, October 29, 2013.
DepEd added that they are now focused on the request from the Comelec for an additional P300 honorarium for the teachers, but the commission is still waiting for the approval from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for the use of its savings, which will included the augmentation of P300 additional allowance for teachers.
For those teachers who may have complaints of har(–foul word(s) removed–)ment regarding the October 28 Barangay Elections they advised to seek help and (–foul word(s) removed–)istance from the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO).
