“Metro Manila” UK’s Official Entry to 86th Academy (Oscar) Awards 2013

The movie, “Metro Manila,” is the United Kingdom’s official entry to the 86th Academy Awards 2013 featuring Filipino actors Jake Macapagal, Althea Vega and John Arcilla.

The movie written and directed by UK filmmaker Sean Ellis, is set in Manila, and centers on a Filipino farmer who search for a better living in the Philippine’s capital city from his previous work as a farmer on their province.

“Metro Manila” has been selected by British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) as the country’s official submission to compete in the 2014 Oscar’s Best Foreign Language Film category.

The Sean Ellis directed movie chronicles the struggles of Oscar Ramirez which was portrayed by Jake Macapagal. The movie, “Metro Manila,” won the Audience Award for Best World Dramatic Film at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

The deadline for submission of entries to the 86th Academy Awards will be on October 1, 2013. The entries will be trimmed down to 9 finalists in January, with the final five nominees announced in the same month. The 86th Academy Awards will be held on March 2, 2014 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California.
