One of the Philippines most popular boxer, “The Filipino Flash,” Nonito Donaire is now prepared for one of his greatest battle against an able opponent against the Japanese WBC Super Champion Toshiaki Nishioka.
The WBO/IBF super bantamweight champion Nonito will fight for the World Boxing Council’s coveted Diamond Belt at the Home Depot Center in Carson City on October 13.
During the press presentation of the two boxers at the Crystal Ballroom of the Millenium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angele on Monday both boxers were present.
Top Rank promoter was expecting for a sensational with a huge attendance fight. They described the upcoming fight between Nonito Donaire and Toshiaki Nishioka as one of the worthwhile fight of the year for both boxers were terrific.
Bob Arum described Nonito’s fight against Nishioka as a very tough opponent for him. He was quoted as saying that “Nishioka is a tremendous fighter, very well schooled but those are the kind of fighters that Nonito has to beat to get the recognition that he desires as being one of the great fighters of the world.”
Nonito Donaire currently ranked at the no. 4 spot in the Ring Magazine pound-for-pound list together with current no. 1, Manny Pacquiao, followed by Floyd Mayweather and Sergio Martinez.
The World Boxing Council through President Jose Sulaiman on their part confirmed that the Donaire vs. Nishioka Title fight will be for the WBC Diamond Belt. It will be the second belt which followed the “Fighter of the Decade” title given by the WBC, which was won by Manny Pacquiao over Miguel Cotto.
The Press Presentation of the two fighters Donaire (29-1, 18 KOs) and Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KOs) caught the promoter Top Rank by surprise after the unexpected interests by the boxing media at the Biltmore Hotel last Monday.
The fight which will also features Junior Welterweight sluggers Mike Alvarado going up against the more popular Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios.
The fight will be held this coming October 13, 2012 at the Home Depot Center in Carson and it will be shown live via HBO.
