Japan Coast Hit by a Powerful 7.0 Magnitude Earthquake

A mid-afternoon quake jolts the cities of Japan. According to Japan Meteorological Agency hit at 2:28 P.M. (local time). It was measured an intensity of 4 on the Japanese scale of 7 in many locations in downtown Tokyo, Miyagi, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Chiba, Saitama and Kanagawa prefectures.

The strong earthquake has a preliminary magnitude at 7.0 which struck under the sea several miles south of Japan but was felt as far as the capital of Tokyo. Buildings were shook on the capital and nearby cities.

The epicenter was about 370 kilometers (230 miles) below the sea. It struck near the uninhabited island of Torishima in the Pacific Ocean, about 600 kilometers (370 miles) south of Tokyo. The report was according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Meanwhile according to the initial reports from the U.S. Geological Survey which was based in Hawaii. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake, at a depth of nearly 350km, has been recorded off Japan’s south-eastern Izu islands.

There were no reports of casualties and major damages but some of the major events in the country were suspended and bullet trains were put on hold until everything was clear. No Tsunami warning was declared right after the earthquake.

Authorities were still investigating for a possible damages and injuries during the reported earthquake.
